Local charity Bump Baby and Beyond are hosting their second parent Café on Saturday at the Usual Place in Dumfries.
The event aims to raise awareness of the support and activities available to dads, mums and carers in Dumfries and Galloway, and give pregnant and new parents the chance to mix socially.
Event organiser, and volunteer, Sharron McGarva said ‘we all need a little help in the early days and our event creates a social space in which new parents, families and carers can find out what’s going on in their community, meet new friends, and make contacts so that walking through the door to a new service seems less intimidating’.
The four hour event includes a range of third sector, NHS and Council services with Childsmile, Peaceful Pregnancy, Red Cross First Aid, Toy Library, Early Years Scotland, Let’s Cook, the Library Service, Leisure and Sport, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services all in attendance. Alongside these will be Bump, Baby and Beyond’s own projects Dumfries Sling Library, Dumfries Nappy Library, Babes in the Woods, Mum2Mum Friends and host of information from other organisations.
Sharron continued ‘alongside the information stalls we will be running workshops and taster sessions and the Usual Place café will be open so that attendees can sit and have a blether too – we will even have some activities to distract any littles ones in attendance’.
The charity have been supported by a range of national organisations including Parenting Across Scotland, Bookbug and Play, Talk, Read who have offered giveaways to include in the attendees goody bag. There will also be a free prize draw where attendees could be in with a chance of winning a bumper prize pack to get them off to the best start.
The event kicks off at 10am on Saturday at the Usual Place, Academy Street, Dumfries and goes through to 2pm. For further information see: facebook.com/BumpBabyandBeyondDumfriesandGalloway
