Country Fair Fun for Four Legged Friends

Dog owners and lovers will be spoiled for choice with an array of events to enjoy at Galloway Country Fair this summer.

Whether visitors are looking to gain dog discipline tips from renowned trainer John Halstead, kit out their furry friend in stylish handmade collars or simply enjoy the array of canine entertainment – Drumlanrig has it covered.

The popular scurry from Galloway Gundogs will once again return this year with support from sponsor Chapel Farm. There will be a combination of canine derby, Grand National and a relay races taking place on both days of the Fair where adults and children can enter their dog, no matter what breed, to compete on the specially constructed track.

John Halstead with his champion Labradors will be putting his dogs through their paces in the main arena this August. Working with young dogs, he’ll show visitors how to put good foundations into training and the steps to take to reach Field Trail Championship level.

Dog owners inspired by John’s demonstrations or keen to show off their ‘best in show’ can enter the specific spaniel tests on Saturday or retriever tests on Sunday too.

The talented Stuart Barnes and team will entertain the crowds with his impressive and comical Dog and Duck Show. Using both trained and untrained sheep dogs, Stuart demonstrates how to best resolve common behavioural issues as they herd ducks around the arena.

With hundreds of trader stalls to browse, including natural dog treats from Kelso & Titch and handmade dog collars and leads from Kelsae Collars, dog lovers will be well catered for.

Anna Fergusson, Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate Manager, said: “We encourage our visitors to bring their dogs along with them to the Fair and we have a whole range of entertainment and stalls that are sure to be of particular interest to them.
“The scurry and competitions are a great way to get involved with the entertainment of the Fair. We can’t wait to welcome families, visitors and four legged friends to Drumlanrig this summer.”
