Work commences on new Drumlanrig visitor Cabin

A new addition will be welcomed to the Adventure Playground at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate over the coming months providing a multitude of benefits to visitors.

Work has started on a brand new multi-use Cabin which has been designed to complement its surroundings, positioned within a small clearing of the wooded landscape.

With a slopped roof, the shorter edge will match the beech hedge and the taller edge will face away from the picturesque category B listed flower garden and greenhouse.

Environmentally friendly and sustainable materials have been factored into the design and build of the new Cabin as well as the overall aesthetic for the Estate grounds. This includes larch boarding on the Cabin to match the appearance of the Adventure Playground structures, as well as carefully positioned roof lighting and sheeting to complement the neighbouring glasshouse roof structure.

Anna Ferguson, Estate Manager at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, said: “We’ve been planning this new addition for some time now and are delighted to see the first builders on site to start work on the foundations.
“The indoor space will be a fantastic asset for visitors, offering a rainy day option for some of our seasonal Ranger events as well as a space that visitors can hire for private events or kids’ parties.”

Disruption to visitors with be kept to an absolute minimum during work on the Cabin with opening times remaining the same as scheduled.

Visitor season at Drumlanrig is from 10am – 5pm daily and the Castle will be open for tours 25 May – 27 May and 1 July – 31 August.
