CHILDREN can find out more about the history of Carlisle Cathedral at a series of events being held during February half-term.
The activities are part of the Cathedral’s 900th anniversary celebrations and will explore its role as a place of pilgrimage and rest throughout the centuries.
On Tuesday, February 15, children can draw inspiration from the Cathedral or their favourite place to create their own pilgrim badge, and on Wednesday, February 16, they can design their own mosaic tile to take home.
Free activities include a history trail around the Cathedral where children can discover its hidden treasures, and a drop-in art workshop from 10am to 12noon on Thursday, February 17.
Sarah Cameron, who is Head of Heritage Learning at Carlisle Cathedral, said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer these activities during February half-term which provide an opportunity for children to find out more about the Cathedral and its history.
“All our events are indoors, so provide a good option if the weather isn’t great, and we’ve taken steps to ensure the necessary Covid measures are in place.
“You can make a day of it by taking part in one of the workshops, following the history trail around the Cathedral, and enjoying something to eat and drink in the Cathedral Cafe.”
The workshops on Tuesday, February 15 and Wednesday, February 16 are being held in the Cathedral’s Undercroft from 10am to 11am, with all resources included in the ticket price.
The Pilgrim Badge workshop costs £4 for two people; £8 for four people; and £12 for six people. Each tile at the Labyrinth Mosaic workshop costs £3 per child, with the opportunity to purchase multiple tiles to design. Due to small pieces, this workshop is recommended for children over the age of six years-old. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. Accompanying adults are free but must book their place in order to monitor numbers. Book tickets at https://carlislecathedral.org.uk/tickets/
