Kirkcudbright Galleries is paying tribute to the original architects of Kirkcudbright Town Hall, as well as the architects who are at the heart of the current redevelopment of the Town Hall to transform it into a major art gallery for Kirkcudbright and beyond.
A series of informal talks will be presented as part of Dumfries & Galloway’s participation in national Doors Open Day events on Saturday 9th September.
The Kirkcudbright Artists’ Collection has been recognised as one of National Significance to Scotland and it is fitting that such a collection will be on display within the extensively redeveloped interior of the former Kirkcudbright Town Hall. The new gallery is scheduled to open in March 2018.
Councillor Andy Ferguson said, “The new Kirkcudbright Galleries will allow us to provide a permanent home to display our impressive art collection and to celebrate the heritage of the area. Our Doors Open Day event this year will give people a taster of what to expect when Kirkcudbright Galleries opens in March next year”.
It has not been possible previously to display this collection to any great extent but the refurbishment of the Town Hall has made this a reality in a very dramatic way. The displays in the new gallery will aim to engage everyone of all ages and interests.
Informal 20 minute talks will take place in The Stewartry Museum in St Mary Street, almost directly opposite the Town Hall. These short talks are sure to inspire everyone to look forward to the opening of Kirkcudbright Galleries next year.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Doors Open Day informal talks. Booking is not required but please attend promptly as space is very limited. Talks start at 11.00am, 11.30am, 12.00 mid-day, 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
