Laggan is launching its inaugural family Burns Supper on the 27th January 2024 at GG’s Yard. At £40pp, the event will be chaired by local MSP Finlay Carson and will feature an impressive lineup of guest speakers, a traditional Burns supper meal, entertainment and ceilidh dancing.
The event is sponsored by Turcan Connell and Johnston Carmichael and is expected to host over 150 guests spanning across three generations. Perfect for all family members, the Burns Supper is suitable from the age of 10 years plus.
Guests will be greeted and piped into the venue by Harry Campbell followed by delicious canapés by the GG’s Yard kitchen team. Once seated, guests will be welcomed by Laggan’s Chair for the evening, local MSP Finlay Carson. Rodger Callendar will ‘Address the Haggis’ and guests will indulge in a traditional two course Burns supper again, prepared by the GG’s Yard team.
Evening proceedings will continue with ‘The Immortal Memory’ by Kate Kay (retired President of Dumfries Ladies Burns Club), followed by the ‘Toast to the Lassies’ by Grierson Dunlop (Turcan Connell) and culminating in the ‘Reply to the Toast to the Lassies’ by Jennifer Stewart (Johnstone Carmichael). Entertainment will be provided between speeches, by Colin Mair from Dumfries and multi award winning youngsters Rose and Seth Byres from Lockerbie. The evening will finish with dancing to Bruce McKenzie’s Shore Road Ceilidh Band.
Duncan McConchie, owner and Managing Director of Laggan says “we’re so excited to provide the families of Dumfries & Galloway our first ever family friendly Burn’s Supper event. Our aim is to bring people together and quite often, Burns Suppers are focused on adults only so we’re thrilled to host the whole family. With our impressive lineup of guest speakers and entertainment, the Burns Supper is going to be a fantastic evening!”
MSP Finlay Carson, the event Chair says “I am delighted to have been asked to chair Laggan’s Family Burns Supper. There is nowhere that can match the suppers that are held in the South of Scotland, where he lived, worked and loved. The passion and knowledge of local Burns enthusiasts is renowned and the Laggan lineup of guest speakers and performers for the event will be the envy of any organiser!”
Speaker Kate Kaye says “I was delighted to be asked if I would take part at Laggan’s Family Burns Supper as being an avid Burnsian, I have tried hard to get families and schools in our area involved in Burns for many years.”
The evening starts at 6pm and finishes at midnight. For those looking to make the most of the night, Laggan’s Sea View Snugs and The Murray Arms have rooms available at a discounted rate. To book tickets for Laggan’s Inaugural Burns Supper, book online here:
