Muckletoon Festival Set for Weekend of Adventure

The line-up for this year’s Muckle Toon Adventure Festival (MTAF) has now been confirmed with celebrity speakers and multi-event activities topping the bill.

The annual festival will be held in Langholm from 16 to 18 June 2017 and is now in its fifth year.

Back by popular demand, the Festival kicks off on the evening of Friday 16 June with the 1.6m Muckle Hill Climb, an individual cycle challenge not for the faint hearted.

The programme for Saturday includes mountain biking, guided walks and the 10k and half marathon trail runs. An amazing line up of “Tent Talks” will be held at Basecamp over the weekend, headlined by elite GB Ultra Runner Joasia Zakrzewski and 401 Marathon Challenge athlete Ben Smith on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The Sunday schedule sees the return of The Muckle 5k, a relatively flat race suitable for all the family however non-other than 401 marathon challenge runner and winner of the 2016 Sport Personality of the year Helen Rollason award Ben Smith will be joining runners en-route.

The 30, 60 and 100mile road cycle events will get off to a unique mass start through the Muckle Toon at 8.30am and provide a real spectacle for spectators and participants alike.

The hugely successful “Summit Challenge Series” – a one, three or five hill walking challenge, will continue in its second year with over 120 walkers taking to the hills to tackle the challenge that suits them best.

Children’s activities are bountiful across the weekend from toddler soft play, face painting, a climbing wall, tag archery and bike pump track.

Dawn Lamb, MTAF Chairperson said;

“We are excited to launch the 2017 festival. This year the team are really looking forward to providing a real spectacle as the Cycle Sportive gets off to a mass start through the Muckle Toon. This will be the first time the event has started this way and we feel it will give participants and spectators an exciting start to their day. Basecamp is filled with activities for all ages designed to motivate and inspire everyone to take part.
We are indebted to our wonderful volunteers to make the event happen each year and provide such a wonderful atmosphere for our competitors. We extend our thanks to local trusts, businesses and Dumfries and Galloway Council. Their vital support is enabling the festival to grow year on year, and become a must-do event on the calendar of the adventurous!”

Councillor Adam Wilson, the Council’s Events Champion said;

“The Muckle Toon Adventure Festival brings the fun back into fitness. It’s one of the best natured festivals we have in Dumfries and Galloway and has an exciting programme of activities taking place, with something for everyone to take part in. The Festival is very successful in attracting tourists to Langholm but is still very much a Muckle Toon community event for everyone to enjoy.”
