A new café at the National Trust for Scotland’s Threave Garden and Estate near Castle Douglas has been serving up success since it opened last week.
The Stables Cafe at Threave Garden opened on 25 September – situated in the heart of the garden, it offers another spot for visitors to pause and enjoy the autumn beauty of the beauty spot.
The new look cafe is located right in the garden with both indoor and outdoor seating, close to the children’s Discovery Garden play area, it seems to be getting good reviews from locals and those visiting from further afield.
With its warm, characterful atmosphere, the Stables Cafe provides an ideal venue for catching up with family and friends over a cuppa, and savouring the delicious cakes and scones, or homemade soups, before a leisurely stroll round the gardens.
Richard Polley, Threave Property Manager, said: “The design evokes the atmosphere of the stables with its references to horses, gardening and the warmth of an old shed. The old books, garden tools and recycled wood and materials create a warm and inviting ambience redolent with memories.
“In the first few days we have already had a very positive response from visitors and on Facebook. The new cafe and the courtyard seating are already proving very popular – in the first four hours after re-opening we made £250 in income.”
Take time during the day to explore Threave’s spectacular gardens with its different areas – from the rock garden, patio garden and secret garden to the walled garden and glass houses which display succulent fruit and vegetables. And, explore the wider estate for a wide range of plants and wildlife. Threave is also a designated Bat Reserve – follow the bat trail to spot wonderful rare bats.
