Owners of retro cars, bikes and scooters are being encouraged to wheel out their prized rides for an afternoon meet up at Palmerston Park Arena in Dumfries on Sunday the 24th of April.
The event which is scheduled to run from twelve noon until two pm, will feature an eighties disco, an eighties fashion shoot involving some of the vehicles and young people from Stagecraft theatre group and also a chance to win tickets for the forthcoming Concert at Queens event due to take place on the 4th June.
Robert Macdonald from Scottish Retros commented “ Our organisation is about the restoration and love of cars from the eighties and nineties, we are always looking for an excuse for a run out and this is a great opportunity for us to meet up and hear more about the concert being organised by Queen of the South”.
James Napper who is the director of the Dumfries based theatre group called Stagecraft said “ we are bringing around twenty five kids dressed in eighties fashion for the photo shoot, this is going to be a really fun day for us and we are all looking forward to it”.
The purpose of the meet up and photo shoot is really to give members of the public a chance to come along and find out more about the Concert at Queens being organised for the 4th June. Bob Geldof ,Rick Astley, Martin Fry and their respective bands are just some of the big name acts booked for the all day event taking place in the Queen of the South football ground. The retro cars tie in with that era of music and will provide a great backdrop for the eighties disco.
The indoor arena will also be open on the day for free football coaching sessions provided by Queen of the South professionals. Those interested are asked to book in advance by phoning or emailing the main Palmerston arena office.
Sid Ambrose who is organising the event on behalf of Queen Of The South said ” The combination of cars, music and fashion from the eighties era will provide a nostalgic reminder for many people of their youth, we hope people will come along to support the event and get a chance to win tickets for the June concert. We are also keen to hear from anybody wishing to come along in any type of vintage or classic type vehicle. As far as we are concerned the more the merrier and they will be made welcome on the day with a courtesy coffee for the vehicle drivers”.
