DID YOU KNOW? – In 2002, a female driver plunged 500 feet into the Devil’s Beef Tub, near Moffat in Dumfries and Galloway.
News reports state that she had suffered only a broken arm. Amazingly, she managed to also ascend back up to the road (A701) and flag down a lorry.
It is believed that the recovery of the van was too expensive and a decision was made to leave it there.

The 500-foot (150 m) deep hollow is formed by four hills, Great Hill, Peat Knowe, Annanhead Hill and Ericstane Hill. It is one of the two main sources of the River Annan.
