Eco Group Encourage Thornhill Locals to Swap Old Clothes and Reduce Waste
Saturday 18th January 2025 11am – 4pm
Old School Thornhill, Thornhill
A group of Eco-conscious pupils of all ages from Wallace Hall Academy, invite the Thornhill community to a Clothing Swap this Saturday 18th January 2025. The event held at Old School Thornhill will run from 11am to 4pm, aiming to promote sustainable fashion and highlight the environmental effects of fast fashion.
Visitors can enjoy refreshments provided by the Thornhill Community Food Initiative, including soup, scones, tea, and coffee. A Repair and Mend Station, led by artist Denise Zygadlo will offer help and advice on fixing clothes.
Donations of clothing in all sizes are welcome and can be arranged by contacting Mia at mia@oldschoolthornhill.
Leah Belford, Wallace Hall’s Eco Coordinator explained:
“Fast fashion is one of the world’s largest industrial polluters, responsible for 10% of global pollution and 1.2 billion tonnes of carbon emissions annually. We hope to encourage the reuse of clothes to reduce overconsumption and its impact on the planet.”
This event provides an opportunity for the community to learn about sustainable practices and refresh their wardrobe in an eco-friendly way.
