DUMFRIES PRIMARY PUPILS QUE UP TO TRY SNOOKER

Potting Pupils Cue up to try Snooker

Over 30 Primary School pupils from St Michael’s and Troqueer have been learning how to play snooker at the Sands Snooker Club as part of a weekly pilot programme linked to numeracy and literacy.

The partnership programme between Dumfries and Galloway Council and the Sands Snooker Club provided an opportunity for P6/7 pupils to learn ‘Cue Zone’ principles such as accuracy, tactics and mathematical skills as well as having fun learning the game.

The pilot programme led by Paul Jamieson, a pioneer of junior snooker development in Dumfries and multiple Scotland internationalist, will hopefully become an annual event to give more pupils can try their hand at snooker.

All pupils who attended the festival session received a certificate and medal for participation and many of them have also begun attending the Saturday Coaching sessions at the club from 10am – 1pm.
