SCOTTISH YOUTH PARLIAMENT RESULTS FOR DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY ARE IN

Scottish Youth Parliament – The Results Are In!

The Scottish Youth Parliament Elections closed on 13 March. On Saturday 14 March, the four successful MSYP’s were announced at an event at Robert Burns Film Centre. This was an opportunity to celebrate all of the young people’s commitment and efforts throughout the last several months of SYP activity. Throughout the 2 week voting period, over 2,300 young people voted to select their desired candidates.
The chosen candidates were;
Emily Davies and Lewis Douglas for the Dumfriesshire Constituency and;
Jordan Todd and Dylan Currie for Galloway and West Dumfries.
The region’s four new MSYP’s will become active in their roles in June and in the interim will be developing strategies and taking part in training to ensure they are able to achieve the change they envisage for Dumfries and Galloway’s youth.
Emily Davies said after being elected;
“I wanted to be an MSYP because change is always needed to improve lives. I wanted to change the way young people think about politics and issues within the local community and at a national level. I wanted the right recognition for the Young Carers Project because the support and advice they give to all young people that care for a loved one is immaculate. All young people need help but when suffering from anxiety, stress and depression, everyone deserves the right help so that is why I wanted to make sure that everyone gets that help. My campaign slogan is Getting the right help, At the right time, For all Young People and that is why I truly wanted to become an MSYP.”
Councillor Ted Thompson, Depute Leader for Dumfries and Galloway Council opened the event. He said;
“The Scottish Youth Parliament Election this year was a strongly contested event. Congratulations to all who put themselves forward and good luck to Lewis, Emily, Jordan and Dylan in their newly elected roles. Having read all the candidates statements I was struck by the similarities in each address in wishing for a fairer and more equal society. It is really heartening to see young adults taking such an interest in politics as the means to change society for the better. This bodes well for the future.”
