BELTED AND WHITE GALLOWAY SALE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited staged their annual Autumn Show and Sale of Pedigree Belted and White Galloway Cattle on behalf of the Belted Galloway Cattle Society. The breed has had both an exciting and extremely busy year with the World Congress being held in this area in August. All this culminated in this prestigious show and sale which witnessed buyers from Germany and Switzerland competing with buyers from Scotland, England and Ireland resulting in a fantastic days trading for all sellers.
At the pre-sale show the judge, Richard Wilson, found his Champion Male Belted Galloway in Lot 40 – Lomond Auchentoshan from JM & D Maxwell, Blairvockie, Drymen which went on to sell for 8000 gns to Howe Mill Estates. Champion Female Belted Galloway was Lot 19 – Gruige Glenda from Mr Dess Henry, Ballymena selling to Messrs McNally for 3300 guineas. Overall Champion White Galloway was lot number 60 – Encrogo Hugo from Mrs Z Black, Bogleknowe, Balmaclellan which sold for 1700 gns to Germany.
A feature of the sale was the dispersal of the entire herd of Irelandton White Galloways from RKG Farms. They topped at 2800 gns for a White Galloway cow with AA Calf at foot selling to Mrs A Galloway, Newton Stewart.
