Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited continued their breeding sheep sale on Monday 29th August 2016 when they staged their annual Show and Sale of Scotch Mule Ewe lambs. This event, which is the premier event in the calendar was a great success and sellers were well rewarded for their efforts. At the pre-sale show the judge, Mr Phillip Fry from Porterstown, Thornhill awarded the championship ticket to a pen of 40 from R J Shennan & Sons, Farden, Pinwhirry which went on to sell for £132 to the judge. Reserve Champion pen of 40 came from W Lockhart & Co, Culdoach and sold for £156 to John Guild, The Laight, New Cumnock. Next up at £138 were a pen of 40 from J & A Brown, Macqueston followed at £135 from Culdoach; £132 from Farden and Marr, Thornhill and £130 from Macherquhat.
With a level trade prevailing throughout, from the first pen to the last, the average levelled at £100.97 for 8600 sold compared to £89.63 for 9117 sold last year, a rise of £11.34.
