Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 6th December 2022 held their annual Christmas Show and Sale of Prime lambs together with the sale of 2786 Prime and Cast sheep.
At the pre-sale Show the Judge Mr Jim Craig from Ballards Butchers found his Champions in tremendous Beltex lambs scaling 47kg from Messrs Smith, Barmurrie which sold for £180 or 383ppk to the Judge. The Reserve Champion came from Messrs Porteous, Lower Ardmannoch with 50kg Texel lambs which sold for £155 to Grierson Butchers, Castle Douglas.
2262 sold to average 241.3ppk. Outwith the Show lambs trade peaked at £136.50 for heavy Texels from Messrs McWhirter, Kenmure, Kirkcowan and 290ppk for Beltex from Messrs Shaw, Killochy.
524 Cast Sheep topped at £284 for a Texel ewe from Messrs Hiddleston, Wellhill with tups to £164 for a Lleyn from Messrs Armstrong Farhills.

OTM Cattle sold to £1787.16 for a Luing bull from Messrs Murray, High Ersock and 247ppk, for a Limousin cow from Messrs Jardine Upper Hardland
