WALLETS MARTS CASTLE DOUGLAS LIMITED
MONDAY 8 JUNE 2020
STORE, OTM CATTLE AND BREEDING HOGGS
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited staged their annual sale of Blackface and Scotch Mule hoggs, along with their fortnightly sale of store and OTM Cattle.
Blackface ewe hoggs were tremendous to sell and well short of buyer’s requirements. 481 sold to average £149.09, a rise of £25.29 on the year. Hoggs looked a picture and were a credit to the Vendors who under the current circumstances had to stay away. This did not hinder the trade in any way, with top today a new centre record for Blackface hoggs of £600 for a pen of three tremendous hoggs brought out by shepherd Robert McTaggart from long time consignor, Glen Farm, Gatehouse of Fleet and sold to Alan Stewart, Co Antrim. At £320 was another pen of three this time from Jim and Fiona Burns, Craignell, selling to Mr P Turnbull, Whitby.
Crossbred hoggs were also a dream to sell, averaging £122.15 for 157 and topping at £135 for a smart pen from Messrs Jamieson, Garrochtrie, Port Logan, with Texels to £128 from the same home.
