STORE CATTLE AND OTM CATTLE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their fortnightly sale of Store and OTM Cattle on Monday 4th July 2016.
A lesser show of Beef Cows sold again to a buoyant trade with many more required to satisfy demand. Topping the sale was 135p per kg for a South Devon cross cow from Palmallet Farms, Whithorn. Top per head was £829.92 for a Limousin cross cow from Messrs Paterson & Co, Kildarroch.
A small but nice show of store cattle were easily sold selling to £1190 for a SimX heifer from Palmallet Farms, Whithorn. Heifers peaked at 238.3p per kg for a pen of Simmentals from Graplin Farms, Borness with bullocks peaking at 235.4p for a pen of Charolais from Messrs McWhirter, Kenmure, Kirkcowan. Bullocks levelled at 222.58p per kg with the heifers being 210.48p per kg.

PRIME LAMBS SHALL COMMENCE AT 10.30 PROMPT.
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their weekly sale of 1450 prime lambs and cast sheep on Tuesday 5th July 2016.
1161 prime lambs sold to average 183.98p SQQ (184.25p). All classes were less on the week but firmed as the sale went on; leaner lambs proved harder to cash.
Lambs sold to a top of £95.50 for heavyweight Suffolks from Messrs Lindsay, Culnaightrie, Auchencairn, with top price per kilo being 209.5p for a pen of Beltex from Messrs Jardine, Upper Hardland.
289 cast sheep sold less than last week’s extreme rates but still look a good trade. Top today was a pen of Texels at £110 from Messrs Black, Hillside with Blackface selling to £58.50 from Upper Hardland.
