STORE AND OTM CATTLE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited continued their fortnightly store sales on Monday 30th January 2017 when they sold 279 Store and OTM Cattle. Despite numbers being well up on the year buyer demand considerably outstripped supply. Topping the sale at £1210 were a pen of Limousin bullocks from A & M Fitzsimon, Tregallon. This was followed at £1190 for Aberdeen Angus crosses from S & LM Asberry, Hill of Balmaghie. Top price per kg in the bullock section was 263.9p paid for Charolais crosses to new consignors at this centre namely McNeill Estates, Shennanton. Shennanton also topped the heifers at 253.6p again for Charolais crosses. A pen of Limousin cross heifers from A Kerr & Co, Fagra were top price at £1105.
Overall averages levelled at 226p per kg or £970.26 for bullocks and 206.2p per kg or £850.20 for heifers.
In the OTM ring, like the store ring, numbers fell short of buyers requirements which reflected on the sale average of 125.7p or £715.47 per head. Topping the sale at 176p was an overage Aberdeen Angus heifer from Cotland whilst cows topped at 138p for a Simmental from Graplin Farms.

WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 31st January 2017 had forward 885 Prime Hoggs and 186 Cast Sheep.
885 Prime Hoggs sold to average 169.45 (SQQ 170.95). All classes were sharper on the week with only overfat hoggs 40 – 43kg showing little difference.
Topping today was heavyweight Texels AT £85 from Messrs Williamson & Ross, Breckoniehill, Castle Douglas who also topped the ppk at 189 for a pen of export weight Beltex hoggs.
186 cast sheep would be sharper on the week selling to £89 for Texels from Farhills; Mules to £67.50 and Blackface to £48.
