WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 24th January 2017 had forward 1601 Prime hoggets and 281 cast sheep.
1601 Prime hoggets sold to average 156.5 (SQQ 157.32). This average included 759 Blackface hoggets and 865 hoggs under 39kgs, with this class of hogg being harder to sell on the week. Heavyweight exports hoggs were in short supply and readily sold; with heavy hoggs similar to last week with overfat hoggs 42-45kgs still difficult to sell.
Topping today, both per head and per kilo was export hoggs firstly Texels scaling 38.8kgs at 206.2 or £80 from Douganhill Farms, Castle Douglas and secondly also for export Texels from Messrs Gray, Eastfield, Symington also at £80.
Cast sheep sold to a top of £113 for a Suffolk Ram from Carsewalloch. Ewes to £77 for Texels from Mull of Galloway with Greyface to £61 and Blackface to £47.
