After a number of recent incidents of sheep worrying in Rockcliffe, where 6 lambs and 1 ewe have been killed, Police Scotland want to raise awareness to all dog owners.
Livestock Worrying is when farm animals are attacked or chased by dogs.
This can have devastating effects on the animals, farmers and their businesses.
Farmers are within their right to shoot dogs found to be worrying sheep or livestock on their land, to prevent any or further injury.
Please consider the following points when out walking your dog:-
· Don’t take your dog into fields where there are lambs, calves or other young farm animals.
· If you go into a field with farm animals, keep your dog on a short lead or close to heel and stay as far away from the animals as possible.
· You will find cattle and sheep grazing the Hills and Commons all year round so if you’re in doubt, always keep your pet on a lead!
