DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY VET NURSES GRADUATE

Vet Nurses Celebrating Graduation Look Forward to Full Employment

Sixteen Veterinary Nurses from SRUC’s Barony Campus recently celebrated their success at the graduation ceremony held at Bute Hall in the University of Glasgow. They toasted not only their academic achievement but also their career prospects having all secured jobs in the veterinary sector.
Their friends and family sat alongside the teaching staff who supported the newly graduated nurses throughout their course and watched as the graduands made their professional declaration. Dr Niall Connell, Vice Chairman of the Veterinary Nursing Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, was there to hear their oath where they promised to work with integrity, accept their responsibilities to their profession, the public and clients, but above all to ensure the health and welfare of animals in their care.
Speaking at the ceremony, attended by HNC and HND students from across the SRUC Campuses Acting Principal Janet Swadling told those collecting their certificates how proud they should be of their award, noting that they have all achieved a significant academic goal which we hope will launch you on a new and a successful career.
She said: “Of special note are our sixteen veterinary nursing students who will not only graduate today, they will also stand before Dr Niall Connell, Vice Chairman of the Veterinary Nursing Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and make their professional declaration.
“This registration as a veterinary nurse is a special moment that truly marks the start of their career as the graduates pledge to work with integrity, accept their responsibilities to their profession, the public and clients, but above all to ensure the health and welfare of animals in their care. It is worth noting that all of the Veterinary nursing students have secured employment in the sector.”
