Congratulating students gathered for their annual awards ceremony at the Barony campus of Scotland’s Rural College BAFTA winning film director Seth Gardner told them that with a clear dream and the belief they are worthy of that dream, everything was possible.
Seth Gardner, who won his BAFTA for the short film The Swimming Pool and owns digital media and film production company RedSnappa, told the students how, as a teenager, he had dropped out of school before realising at the age of 23 that he needed qualifications, so went back to college to pass the exams needs for a University place. He outlined how, following an Honours degree in Theatre, Film and Television, his dream became reality and he had gone on to have a very successful career.
“By passing your exams you have learned the most amazing and powerful secret for success,” he told the students. “With a clear dream and the belief that you are worthy of that dream, anything is possible.”
The gathering of students, proud parents, partners and friends at Barony had been welcomed by Alistair Marshall, Vice Chair of the SRUC Board. Dr Dave Roberts, SRUC’s Dean in Dumfries, outlined recent events at SRUC and its commitment to the regional delivery of services. Senior Tutor Julie Parker reviewed a highly successful and active year by staff and students at Barony before inviting Seth Gardner to present the certificates and trophies marking their achievements over the past academic year.
