DUMFRIES AUCTION MART STRENGTHENS THE TEAM

Following C&D Auction Marts Limited’s recent acquisition of the trading businesses at Dumfries and Longtown auction marts, the company has taken the opportunity to strengthen the team of auctioneers and field staff at Dumfries to ensure that the company’s strong presence in South West Scotland is maintained and that the business continues to provide the very best livestock marketing service at Dumfries auction mart.

Mr. Stewart Wilson from Drundrennan and Mr. Alistair Watret from Ruthwell have joined the company as part time field officers; in addition, Mr. Wilson will take on the responsibility for the selling of the cast sheep at the mart’s Wednesday weekly sale. They will both report to Mr. Harry Begg who remains in day-to-day charge as head of livestock sales.

Mr. Ben Radley has also been promoted to a trainee auctioneer position, alongside his present and ongoing role as a field officer; and Mr. Matthew Thomson is to commence attending Dumfries mart on an occasional basis to assist in the canvassing for, and selling of, calves at the Monday fortnightly sale.

Commenting upon these new appointments, Mr Stuart Thomson, director said: “We are delighted to have secured the services of Stewart Wilson and Alistair Watret, whose experience and knowledge of the livestock sector will add another dimension to our team at Dumfries as we seek to grow the business from an already strong and well established farming customer base”.

Mr. Thomson also added: “Ben Radley will play a key part in the long term future of Dumfries mart and, in the short term, he will also gain auctioneering experience through the attendance and selling at Thomson, Roddick & Medcalf’s Tuesday fortnightly furniture sales at our Wigton (Cumbria) saleroom.
