NFU MEMBERS’ SURGERIES FOR DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY

Dumfries and Galloway Region is to pilot a new initiative that will give members the opportunity to speak to the Union’s officeholders and staff in confidence on a one-to-one basis.

The members’ surgeries will be held in Dumfries (morning); Castle Douglas (afternoon) and Stranraer (evening) on Thursday, 15 May and will allow members to put their questions, concerns and views directly to the Union’s President, Nigel Miller; Director of Policy, Jonnie Hall, or Regional Chairman, Andrew McCornick.

The venues and times are:

– Dumfries and Langholm Branches: 10.00am – 12 noon in the NFU Mutual Office, 41 Castle Street, Dumfries.
– Stewartry Branch: 1.00pm – 3.00pm in the Douglas Arms Hotel, Castle Douglas.
– Wigtown Branch: 5.00pm – 7.00pm in Green Valley Golf Club, Castle Kennedy.

To book a meeting, members are asked to call Regional Manager Isla Flanagan on 07718 425053 or email: [email protected]

If successful, the Union will look to roll out further surgeries across Scotland.

Speaking ahead of the meetings, Isla said:

“Members are at the heart of everything NFU Scotland does. That means giving them a wide range of ways in which they can raise their worries or concerns with their Union.

“While many of our members are happy to pick up the phone, write an email or attend an event, it sometimes needs a face-to-face meeting for a member discuss a matter that is very important to them.

“And the number of topics that may be on our members’ minds is growing – CAP Reform, nitrate restrictions, Less Favoured Areas support, land tenancy, inspections or flooding to name a few.

“Any subjects that a member may require assistance with, or an issue that they would like to see the Union tackle can be brought to the meetings. We would simply ask members to call ahead and make an appointment with an outline of the subject they would like to discuss so that we can make sure they get to discuss it with the most appropriate person.

“It will also possible to drop in on the day but members will need to be prepared to wait for a free slot!”
