There really will be something for everyone at this year’s Wigtown Show. It has just been confirmed that Scottish celebrity chef, Nick Nairn will be attending!
From restaurateur to celebrity chef and food campaigner, Nick Nairn has had a long and pioneering career in the UK food industry. A familiar face from television, Nick is equally famous for his staunch support of top quality Scottish produce and passionate advocacy of healthy eating. His cookery demonstrations within the Food marquee during the day are sure to be extremely popular and with his interest in agriculture he will enjoy seeing the quality livestock and presenting the trophies in the main ring.
The afternoon entertainment after the grand parade is always varied; from the elegant heavy horse driving competitions to the popular Tug o’War featuring local teams. New on the programme for 2017 is the UK’s No.1 Monster Truck Team performing their “Big Pete and Grim Reaper Monster Truck Show”! Weighing in at 7.5 tons Big Pete is an awesome machine built for one reason only – mass destruction! It is one of Europe’s largest Monster Trucks with a full size American truck body, and is now partnered by the Grim Reaper. So don’t miss the chance to watch two real Monster Trucks at work. Jumping 15ft in the air is an impressive sight, crushing anything in its path. Then see two Monster Trucks working alongside each other doing a tug of war pulling a car in two. It’s guaranteed to be a big favourite with the audience with an action packed performance, amusing and entertaining radio commentary by the driver throughout the display.
Beltex Scotland National Show of sheep is being held at Wigtown Show this year and the sheep theme continues with the return of the ever-popular and educational Sheep Show with their “dancing” sheep! Appearing for the first time at Wigtown Show, Scott Poleykett will be entertaining and encouraging folk to have a go at circus skills so get practising with your diablo and spinning plates! The restrictions due to Avian Flu are being lifted soon so it is full steam ahead for the Wigtown Poultry Show committee who make the Poultry marquee another great attraction.
That’s just a taste of what’s on offer at this year’s show, more information will be available on the show’s website and Facebook page as the show date, Wednesday 2nd August, approaches. Entries for both livestock classes and the Poultry Show are welcomed prior to the July closing dates (regular livestock exhibitors will receive their premium list shortly).
