STORE CATTLE AND OTM CATTLE
Wallets Marts sold 28 OTM Cattle, 44 Store Cattle and Breeding Ewe Hoggs at their sale on Monday 6th June.
A smaller show of OTM cattle were well short of buyers requirements selling at prices well in excess of vendors expectations. Topping the section at 176p was a Simmental heifer from Graplin Farms which was also top price per head at £880. Cows sold to a top of 135p for a Simmental cross from Graplin and to £853 for a Simmental from Graplin Farms. Overall average was 110.1p per kg.
Store cattle also met a fast selling trade with buyers topping up numbers to keep ahead of grass growth. Charolais bullocks from Lochside topped their section at £1010 whilst Limousin bullocks from Old Land sold to 239.1p per kg. Heifers also topped at £1010 for an Aberdeen Angus cross from Clonyard and to 222.9p for Limousins from Old Land.

Kicking of the breeding sheep season, Wallets staged their annual sale of Blackface and Scotch Mule Ewe Hoggs selling 972 Hoggs, which with the recent good spell of weather, were shown in tremendous bloom. A large ringside of buyers were in attendance and some left empty handed. Topping today at £145 were two pens of Hoggs from Glen Farming Co, Gatehouse of Fleet. The first to Mr S McGinn, Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, and the next pen to Mr C McIntyre, Croftnagarn, Boat of Garten. Next up at £132 was a pen of 33 from J W Kay & Co, Gass Straiton. Overall average levelled at £103.95 for 750 sold, a drop of £14.18 on last year for 10 less sold.
A larger entry of Scotch Mules sold to £130 for an outstanding pen of 21 from Mr R Jameson, Garrochtrie, Port Logan. 222 Scotch Mules averaged £119.97 a rise of £2.50 on the year.

WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their weekly sale of prime and cast sheep on Tuesday 7th June 2016 when they sold 303 Prime Lambs, 44 Prime Hoggs and 170 Cast Sheep.
Lambs are now coming forward in larger numbers each week and the 303 forward sold similar on the week to average 199.56p per kg. Top today was £96 for heavyweight Texels from Mr G Nicolson, Brockloch, Kirkpatrick Durham. Top price per kilo was 215.6p for an outstanding pen of Texels from Messrs Wilson, West Barmoffity.
An end of season show of hoggs sold to a top of £79 for Suffolks from Edgarton.
A better show of ewes were a steady trade but over fat was definitely cheaper. They sold to a top pf £124 for Texels from Denty with Rams to £124 for Texels from Valleyfield. Blackfaces to £59.50 from Castlegower.
