At C & D Auction Marts` monthly sale of dairy cattle at Dumfries on Monday 6th September British Friesian calved heifers from Messrs R. Ritchie & Co., Fardingjames topped the sale selling to £1,820 and £1,800.
A small herd dispersal of Ayrshires and Guernseys from Mrs K. M. MacKay, South Bragar, Isle of Lewis attracted considerable attention with buyers in attendance from as far afield as Brora, Sutherland. 27 head in all, the cows from this traditionally bred and farmed stock sold to £750 and £720 for Ayrshires and £740, twice, for Guernseys. A highlight was the group of seven attractively bred Ayrshire heifer stirks; all six months old or younger, these went to £660, £650, £580 (twice) and £520. Young Ayrshire bulls and bull stirks sold to £890 and £750.
The next Dumfries dairy cattle sale is on Monday 4th October.
