WALLETS MARTS CASTLE DOUGLAS LIMITED
FRIDAY 23RD OCTOBER 2015
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited staged the Annual Show and Sale of Pedigree Belted and White Galloway Cattle at Castle Douglas on Friday 23rd October 2015.
A packed ringside of breed enthusiasts witnessed a sparkling trade throughout with sellers going away delighted. Whilst numbers on the year were down, this did not reflect on quality being an excellent show of cattle which were a credit to their owners.
At the pre-sale show on Friday morning the judge, Mr Robert Adams from Derby found his Champion heifer in Lot Number 1, Gruige Eva, an Irish bred in-calf heifer from Mr Des Henry, Ballymena. Quite fittingly she went on to top the heifer section in the sale making 4000gns to Hockenhull Hall Farms. Reserve Champion was Lot Number 5 Whitstonehill Imp, another in-calf heifer this time from Messrs JC & CJ Ward, Whitstonehill. She went on to make the second top female price of 3600gns selling again to Hockenhull Hall Farms.
Male Champion was Cairnsmore Hamish, a two year old bull brought out by Jane Landers, Bargaly. He went on to top the sale at 7000gns selling to Mr CAW Godfrey, Widecombe-in-the-Moor. Reserve Champion was another two year old bull from Duncan Maxwell, Drymen with Lomond Laphroaig which later sold for 5000gns to Mr I.R.S. Bond, Glen Farm. Another two bulls hit the high notes in the sale selling for 6000gns each. Firstly Cairnsmore Indigo, again from Jane Landers and selling to Speddoch Farm Partnership and then again for Saltway Zebedee from Dr H M O’Connor, Saltway and selling to Mrs F Laing, Coulmany.
A feature of the sale was the reduction of the Ryleston herd from Brook Bull Hire and Sales which topped at 2700gns for a three year old heifer with her heifer calf at foot and selling to Messrs French, Turriff.
Commercial cattle made to £1000 for a red and white heifer from J & Z Kirk, Low Kirkbride.
