Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their fortnightly sale of 100 OTM and Store Cattle on Monday 15th August 2016. A small show of store cattle was presented to a strong ringside of bidders. With numbers falling well short of buyers requirements trade for all classes well exceeded sellers expectations. Bullocks topped at £1165 for a pair of Aberdeen Angus crosses from Messrs Robb, Trolane, Dalry. Next up at £1105 was a Limousin bullock from Auchenfad, Auchencairn. Top price per kg in the bullock section was 233.2p paid to Lochside Ltd for a pen of Charolais crosses. Topping the heifer section at £1000 was a pair of Limousin crosses again from Trolane. Top price per kg for heifers was 241.3p for Charolais crosses from Lochside. Overall averages saw the bullocks level at 207.4p per kg whilst the heifers averaged 222.1p per kg.
In the OTM ring a plainer show of cows met a real demand topping at 140p per kg for a Limousin of Gatehouse Farm. Top price per head was £1144 for an Aberdeen Angus cross from A Craig & Co, Compstonend. Four cast bulls sold to 114p for a Limousin from Gatehouse Farm and to £1058.40 for a Luing from Muncraig. Overall average levelled at 114.63p or £695.45 per head.

WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their weekly sale of 1328 Prime lambs and 540 Cast sheep on Tuesday 16th August 2016.
1328 prime lambs sold to average 179.74p. Heavy lambs, 45kgs plus were in most demand today.
Top today was £100 for heavyweight Suffolks from Messrs McKinnel, Garrarie, Whithorn. Top pen per kilo was for a pen of Beltex lambs at 212.5p from Gelston Castle Farms.
Today it was noticed wet grass coming through the lambs – can all vendors where possible please ensure that lambs are clean and tidy upon arriving.
540 cast sheep would be cheaper on the week especially overfat ewes. Top today was
£119 for a pen of texel ewes from Douganhill Farms. Blackface ewes sold to £52.50 from Mossyard.
