Could we please ask that Vendors get sheep to the Market as early as possible on a Tuesday morning. Clipping is from 8.00am onwards and we would like if sheep were available for them to start at that time
Wallets Marts castle Douglas Limited held their weekly sale of 2008 prime hoggs and cast sheep on Tuesday the 9th February 2016.
1359 prime hoggs sold to average 184.34 (SQQ 185.12). All classes of hoggs were sharper with a large show of hoggs under 39 kgs this depressed the average although most of these hoggs were well fleshed, also included in the sale were 616 Blackface hoggets which sold well to a top of £87 for a pen on 23 heavyweights from Barlure Farms, New Luce. Top price per kilo was for a pen on 24 from Tinwald Shaws, Dumfries at 191.5. Topping the sale today was a pen of Suffolks at £96 from Messrs Austin, Boreland of Girthon. Top ppk from Beltex at 225 from Copelaw, Gatehouse of Fleet.

A huge show of 649 cast sheep sold well again with lean meaty ewes very dear to a top of £108 for Texels from Farhills, Auchencairn. Blackface ewes to £70 from Fauld o’ Wheat.
