STORE AND OTM CATTLE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their main April sale of Store and Grazing Cattle on Monday 22nd April when they sold 1327 cattle.
A right good quality show of cattle was forward and all classes met with a greatly increased demand from the packed ringside of bidders present. Topping the sale at £1280 were a pen of Shorthorn cross bullocks from Messrs McMillan & Partners, Holm of Dalquhairn, Dalry. A pen of Aberdeen Angus cross bullocks from J Mair & Son, Bargatton were top price per kg at 263.8p. Heifers sold to £1120 for Limousin croses from W K Borthwick & Sons, Shangan, Dunscore whilst top price per kg was 248.6p paid to A McCormick & Co, Barnbackle for a pen of Charolais crosses.

790 Bullocks average 227.2p or £906.49 (+8.8p on last sale)
537 Heifers average 216.4p or £851.75 (+5.2p on last sale)
Also forward were 20 OTM cattle which easily surpassed recent extreme rates selling to 186p per kg and £1169.94 for a Charolais cow from R Jardine & Son, Upper Hardland. The sale average levelled at 1440.13p which is a rise of 10p on the last sale. Anyone with cows to sell is well advised to get them to the live ring in the coming weeks.

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited had forward 348 prime and cast sheep on Tuesday 23rd April 2019.
3 spring lambs sold to £105 and 217.98ppk a Dorest for Messrs Maxwell, Midtown, Rhonehouse.
263 prime hoggs sold to average 200.36 SQQ 205.54 all classes were readily bid for with heavy hoggs being much sharper on the week, top was £112 for heavy Texels from Messrs March & Lobban, Muncraig, Borgue, top per kilo was 248.8 for a pen of Beltex from Messrs Adams, Torhousekie, Wigtown.
82 cast sheep sold slightly sharper again with a heavier show forward selling to £98.50 for Beltex ewes from Torhousekie.
