STORE, BREEDING AND OTM CATTLE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited sold 310 Store Cattle, 39 OTM cattle and 103 Breeding Cattle at their fortnightly sale on Monday 6th May 2019. Store cattle maintained recent rates despite being a plainer quality show. Topping the trade at £1290 were Limousin X bullocks from Kirkmabreck, Creetown and 285.7p per kg. for a pen of Charolais crosses from Poldean, Moffat. Heifers sold to £1175 for Limousin crosses from Kirkmabreck and to 240.7 for Charolais crosses from Bargatton, Laurieston. Bullocks averaged 226.2p or £903.62 and heifers averaged 201.8p or £780.67.
At the annual Spring sale of breeding cattle Bulls topped at £3000 for a Limousin from regular consignor Messrs Hansell & Co, Nether Barr, Corsock. Heifers and calves were well sought after selling to £2400 for an outstanding Limousin X heifer and bull calf from Messrs Fingland, Garmartin. Bulling heifers were well bid for topping at £1160 from Messrs Marshall, Auchenleck.
OTM cattle met an animated demand selling to 158p per kg or £1160 for a Simmental from High Borgue. Bulls sold to 128p for a Charolais from Margrie. Overall average was 133.8p per kg.
