Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 22ND August 2017 had forward 1660 Prime and Cast Sheep.
1223 Prime lambs sold to average 183.75 (SQQ 185.55). All classes were easier sold than expected after Monday’s huge influx of numbers. Well fleshed lambs from 41 – 45kgs were the most sought after. Lambs lacking flesh were harder to sell. Also noticed today lambs showing signs of the wet grass so could vendors please ensure all tails are tidied up.
Top today was an outstanding Beltex lamb at £100 from Messrs Dunlop, Cannee, Kirkcudbright , with a pen of Texels from Messrs Van Zwananberg, Barlocco, Auchencairn topping the pence per kilo at 228.
Cast ewes were a plainer show with leaner ewes hard to place. Fit ewes still easiest to sell selling to £107 for a CharX from Carnavel, with rams to £112 for a Texel from Boreland of Girthon.
