Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Monday 10th May 2021 held their fortnightly sale of OTM and store cattle, a long with their annual sale of breeding cattle.
56 OTM’s were a flyer once more selling to a top of £1501 for a Charolais bull from Carseriggan, Newton Stewart with cows to £1451.40 from Muncraig for a Aberdeen Angus with an overage heifer topping the ppk at 215 for Halket Leathes for a Limousin cross.
Stores were a nice trade again selling to £1260 for bullocks and heifers firstly for Fleckvieh bullocks from Auchengray Farms, New Abbey then for Limousin heifers from Gass, Glenluce. Top per kilo was for Aberdeen Angus bullocks at 286.3 from Killumpha, Port Logan with Limousin heifers to 285.7 from Ring of Barfad.
At the annual breeding sale a super ringside of buyers were in attendance ensuring a flying trade throughout, Bulls sold to £7000 for an exceptional Limousin from Messrs Hansell, Nether Barr. This bull had tremendous width and depth and being sired by the much admired Lodge Hamlet made him a sought after bull selling to Messrs McClelland, Knockshinnoch. Also extremely sought after was a rising 5 years old stock Saler bull from Messrs McCulloch Glentoo only being sold as coming into his daughters he rose to £2200.
Bullings heifers from Messrs Marshall, Auchenleck were readily bid for selling to £1200 for a pen of strong British Blue heifers with Limousin’s £1180 and Aberdeen Angus selling to £1160.
Moving on to the heifers with calves and a bouncing trade was had selling to a top of £3700 for an outstanding British Blue heifer and Limousin heifer calf sired by Lodge Hamlet from Messrs Hamilton, Derrie with all the heifers with calves averaging just short of £2300.

WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 11th May 2021 held their weekly Primestock sale where a total of 334 sheep were forward. New season lambs sold to a top of £140 and 330.8 ppk from Messrs Watson High Borgue. Hoggs were an end of season show with meat still key these sold to £134.50 from Messrs Johnston Townhead Of Culloch with top per kilo being 303.8 for Beltex from Messrs Clarke Airyolland Port William
Cast sheep were forward in smaller numbers and as seen were less money on the week selling to £141 for blue Texels from Corra with rams selling to £135 for Texels from Airyolland
