OTM, STORE AND BREEDING CATTLE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Monday 11th May 2020 had forward 300 OTM, Store and Breeding cattle.
A wonderful show of breeding cattle were forward with heifers and calves being highly sought after with 35 heifers selling to average £2022, a phenomenal average, and credit must go to the vendors for the quality on show. Top today was for a Limousin heifer and heifer calf at £2500 from Messrs J A Fingland, Garmartin, Kirkpatrick Durham, whose consignment averaged £2279.16.
Bulling heifers sold to £920 (x2) firstly for British Blues then for Limousins from Messrs J B Marshall, Auchenleck, Auchencairn.
A nice show of store cattle were keenly bid for topping at £1110 for SimX heifers from Cowcorse, Kirkbean. Limousin heifers from Nether Barr led the price per kilo at 229.3 with bullocks from the same home topping this section at 255.7, with three topping Galloways from Nether Linkens selling to £965.
A large show of OTMs were sharper as trade for cows shows a rise. These sold to 184ppk for an overage heifer from East Altercannoch with bullocks from the same home selling to 182. Cows sold to 154 for a Limousin cow from Upper Hardland, with top per head being £1424.28 for an under 36 month heifer from Mill of Plunton. Top cow per head was £1170.40 for an AAx from Compstonend.

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited on Tuesday 12th May 2020 had forward 421 prime and cast sheep.
45 Spring lambs sold to average 244.66 (SQQ 250.99). Lambs forward were mainly 44 – 47kgs and lighter weights would also have been easily sold. Heavyweights sold to £115.50 for Texels from Messrs Fisher Merrick, Port Patrick with top per kilo being 260.2 for Texels from Messrs Watson, High Borgue.
172 hoggs sold to average 200.0 (SQQ 215.8). Anything meaty was a real trade selling to £104.50 for Texels from Messrs Rae, Barcloy with top per kilo being 236.3 from Messrs Marchant, Clonhie.
204 Cast sheep were a similar trade selling to £129 twice firstly for a Texel ram from Byrecroft then for a Beltex ewe from Carsewalloch. Blackface ewes sold to £78.50 from Castlegower.
