STORE CATTLE AND OTM CATTLE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited sold 56 OTM Cattle, 127 Store Cattle and 11 Breeding Cattle on Monday 9th November 2015.
Store Cattle were a similar show to a fortnight ago and traded at the same rates. Bullocks sold to £1020 for a pair of Belted Galloways from Glen Farming Company, Gatehouse of Fleet whilst heifers sold to £1100 off A K McConchie & Co, Mains of Penninghame.
Breeding cattle met a selective trade selling to £1800 for a Limousin X heifer with a bull calf at foot from Flathill, Dundrennan. In-calf heifers sold to £1500 for Limousin crosses from R Ritchie & Co Fardingjames, Auldgirth.
A plainer show of OTM cattle were presented to a larger ringside of bidders and sold well for all classes. Topping the sale at £1013.32 was a Salers bull from Falbae. Cows sold to £1004.48 or 146p per kg for a Limousin from Messrs T B Hansell & Co Nether Barr, Corsock. Overage heifers topped at £956.92 or 188p for a Simmental cross from Kirkdale Farms, Carsluith. Overall average levelled on 100.19p.

WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE
From the 1st January 2015 sheep from the historic flock should be retagged prior to moving to market.
These older animals will have previously received non-electronic tags if born prior to 2010. To meet the current requirements they should be double tagged, one of which must be an electronic (EID) tag.
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their weekly sale of 1775 Prime lambs and cast sheep on Tuesday 10 November 2015.
1225 prime lambs sold to average 154.95 (SQQ 159.31). All classes of lambs were well up on the week and short of buyer’s requirements.
Top price per head was £80 for Texels from Breckoniehill, Castle Douglas closely followed at £77.50 for a pen of Texels from Balgerran, Crossmichael.
Top price per kilo was 171.4p for a pen of Beltex lambs from Tappit Lane.
550 Cast ewes sold to £71 for Cheviot Mules from St Ringan Drive. Rams to £93 from Boreland of Parton. Blackface ewes sold to £54 from Upper Barr. All classes remain a good trade with a lighter show of lambs being presented.
