We have today completed the signing of Scott Mercer from East Fife for an undisclosed fee. The 21 year old becomes Gary Naysmith’s fourth signing of the January transfer window.
The defender who stands at just under six foot tall joins us on an 18 month contract as the manager freshens up the squad and builds for the future.
“Scott played every minute of every game for me at East Fife the season we won the league two title and he has been a regular for East Fife this season. He’s what I’d describe as a modern day full back who has pace and is full of energy. Predominantly a right back he can also play of the left which is exactly what I’m looking for to provide us with additional cover in these areas as we only really have Jamie Hamill on the right and Jordan Marshall on the left at the moment. He’s someone who has been on our radar for a wee while, but we moved and spoke to East Fife on Sunday after Jamie picked up a booking at St Mirren, meaning he’ll be suspended”.
“I believe we have signed a player with real potential but it’s up to Scott to come in and push for a regular starting place and go on to be a Championship full back. He has a decent delivery and comes to us at good age so he’s a real boost to the squad and someone I’m delighted to bring on board as we also look further ahead”.
Currently a personal trainer, Scott who was a YTS with Dunfermline is delighted to be making a return back to full time football.
