Brazil will be competing in this, their first ever World Curling Championship, which is creating a huge social media buzz in their native country. Scotland will be represented by Gina Aitken and Bruce Mouat who were in the region a few weeks ago to help promote the sport to schools.
The region is also welcoming the World Senior Curling Championship, featuring Men’s and Women’s teams from Slovakia, Italy and Poland to name but a few. Scotland are competing, as are England, Wales and Ireland, so there will be plenty of supporters travelling a shorter distance to take in the great atmosphere that so enthralled those watching the Winter Olympics.
Feedback from local hotels has been positive, with a large number of bed nights being snapped up in the traditionally quiet time after Easter. Local schools have also been involved, learning to curl, meeting the Scottish Mixed Doubles team and being taught some great new chants to help them get behind their native team.
