Relay runners from primary schools across Annandale and Eskdale gathered at the Everholm Running Track in Annan on Monday 25 May for the Annandale and Eskdale Primary Schools Sprint Relay Finals organised by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
The event attracted a record entry for this event with 23 schools represented totalling 48 relay teams and 192 children. The event which is for pupils aged Primary 4 – 7 from small schools and Primary 6 – 7 from large schools is part of the Annandale and Eskdale PEPAS calendar of events, sponsored by Magnox Limited.
Chairperson of Annandale and Eskdale Area Committee, Ronnie Ogilvie said;
“It is great to see such large turnout from schools for this sporting event and the encouragement shown to children. We must also pay tribute to Magnox Limited who continue to invest in sport for young people in Annandale and Eskdale which has led to record numbers of children participating and achieving from our area. Thanks must also go to officials from Annan and District Athletics Club, Young Sport Leaders from Annan Academy and Primary PE Specialists for their help with delivering this event.”
The prizes were presented by young Wheelchair Racer Shelby Watson from Johnstonebridge and Richard Murray from Magnox Limited who said;
”There was another great turn out of children and schools at the Everholm Running Track and the standard of the young athletes was excellent. Maybe one of these young children will go on to be one of the next generation of great athletes from this country.”
