A special training day for Laser sailing dinghies was hosted by Annandale Sailing Club, Lochmaben last Thursday, April 10.
Club members welcomed guest coach Richard Benson from Tyneside who shared his expertise in the popular single-handed class.
With a range of ages and abilities in the 12-strong group of ASC members, he had his work cut out, but a light breeze, freshening as the day went on, made life easier.
The morning session was all about boat control and building confidence, with the group sailing in follow-my-leader formation and tacking together on a whistle.
In the afternoon, sailors learned some handy tricks – sailing backwards and rudderless ‘donuts’, turning on the spot – before more tacking and gybing in formation using the full stretch of Castle Loch.
The event was a confidence builder for some of the newer Laser sailors at the club and a fun refresher for others.
*Annandale Sailing Club is hosting its annual Open Day on Sunday, April 27. Anyone is welcome to pop in at the club between 12 and 4pm to look around, find out more about the sport and enjoy drinks and home baking.
Anyone wanting to try their hand at dinghy sailing on the day, with an experienced club member, is asked to book a one-hour time slot via the club’s website www.annandalesailingclub.myclubhouse.co.uk.
