On Sunday the 2nd of September 2018 a highly polished Rugby Star stopped off at Greenlaw, the home of Stewartry Rugby Club, whilst touring Scotland. ‘The Calcutta Cup’ visited much to the excitement of the hundreds who attended.
The Calcutta Cup is the trophy that is awarded to the winner of the match between Scotland and England During the Six Nations Championships each year. It is the oldest of several individual competitions that take during annual tournament.
This year Scotland stunned defending champions England with a 25-13 victory at their home ground Murrayfield in Edinburgh. this was their first win over England in the the six Nations in a decade.
Alongside the cup visit the club held their second week of Give Rugby a ‘TRY’ taster sessions for all boys and girls from P1 upwards,Minis and Under 14’s.
The kids took part in rugby rounders, rugby tennis, painted pebble hunt, try rugby as well as see and touch the Calcutta Cup.
The cup proved a big crowd pleaser.
There was also taster sessions and challenges throughout the day being held in the rugby club gym.
Stewartry Sirens took on Murrayfield Wanderers in a friendly match also.
