Danny Does it for Dumfries – Cricket News

Croma Vigilant Dumfrie Sunday XI entertained Clydesdale in the Western District Sunday League, and won a high scoring match through a magnificent ton from Danny Armtrong

Croma Vigilant Dumfries Sunday XI 207-5 v Clydesdale 206-7

Clydesdale were put into bat and the Sunday XI set about taking early wickets with danny Armstrong and Sam Thronley opening the bowling.  It was Armstrong who picked up the first wicket with the batsman snicking through to the keeper.  It was a bowling change that saw the next wicket with Callum Reynolds-Lewis picking up three wickets in one over, two of them caught and one given out LBW.  Cludesdale began to batten down the hatches and focussed on staying in and getting runs on the board.  Captain Forsyth made another change bringing Hyder Hussain, and he picked up his first senior wickets the first to was that of top scorer Zulfiqar.  Clydesdale began to lose wickets regularly and ended up posting a total of 207 in their allotted 40 overs.

Danny Armstrong was the surprise choice to open the batting, but it was an inspired decision as he started strongly hitting boundaries regularly and causing Clydesdale to make early bowling changes.  Although fellow opener Marshall and debutant Tony Read were dismissed, Clydesdale were being put to the sword.  Armstrong cruised passed his 50 and was joined at the crease with overseas player and captain Joshua Forsyth.  Although Forsyth is the more experienced batsman, it was Danny Armstrong who continued to be the lead batsman in the partnership.  Armstrong eventually fell for a stunning 106 runs, but by then his job was done and Croma Vigilant Dumfries Sunday XI were able to finish the match in just 28 overs and secure their first victory in the Sunday league competition.
