In this weeks DGWGO Rugby Round up, get the latest reports from Newton Stewart RFC, Dumfries Saints, Stewartry RFC and Annan Rugby Club.
Newton Stewart rounded off their stellar season with a thumping 93-17 win over Boroughmuir in the Scottish capital. Callum Gaw, Russell Martin and Jason Mckie all scored hattricks, while Thomas Quigley, Robert Service, Gregor Gaw and captain Liam Brawls also crossed over to notch a total of 15 tries on the road. Newton remains top of the table in National 2 but must await the results of teams around them to see whether or not the title will be coming to Bladnoch
Dumfries are confined to relegation after losing to Lasswade 21-10 over the weekend. Jason Makhari and Robert Neil got the scores for the Saints but it was not enough to see Gavin Blackburn’s men avoid the drop. They will be playing National 3 rugby as of next season.
Second played third as Stewartry travelled to Cumnock for their final game of the domestic
league season in West 1. Scott Milligan, Michael Yates, Rory Porteous and Angus Lindsay (x2) got on the scoresheet to ensure the Blacks finish 2nd and are into the promotion playoffs.
Annan also managed a win in their final game of the year after beating East Kilbride 28-15.
Despite going a few weeks without a game, Annan controlled the game well to get their sixth win of the season and finish mid-table. Aitken Render, Jacob Campbell and Neal Coupland provided the scores for Gordon Carmichael’s side.
