Queens were in Barclays SWFL League One action on Sunday against Dunipace Ladies at Westfield Park, Denny.
It was a dream start for Queens when midfielder Alexandra “Eck” Connon scored after only two minutes when, following a corner, the ball boke to her eight yards out and she half-volleyed home. Things got even better when striker Eve Jackson doubled Queens’ lead in the 5th minute with a fine volley over the keeper following some superb build up play from Queens to work the ball out of defence. However the game was to turn, and Dunipace started to haul themselves back into contention when they pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 29th minute.
At the interval Queens led 2-1 but Dunipace equalised in the 49th minute with a well taken strike into the top corner after a loss of concentration from the Queens defence. Dunipace took the lead in the 80th minute when their winger latched on to a through ball and slipped the ball past Ellie Wright in the Queens goal.
Queens were denied a penalty when the ball appeared to be deflected out for a corner by a Dunipace hand. With Queens trying hard to snatch an equaliser, it was Dunipace who killed the game off with a fourth goal in the last minute when their winger picked the ball up 40 yards out and dribbled through the Queens defence to score and seal the points.
Final score Dunipace 4 Queens 2.
This weekend Queens Ladies have a cup tie away to Renfrew Ladies, to be played on Friday evening.
