Queen of the South Ladies travelled to Linwood on Sunday for a game against Bishopton Ladies, with both teams having won their first two league games. Bishopton started the game well with Queens allowing them too much time on the ball, and after 12 minutes Bishopton took the lead. Queens struggled to get going, but managed to create two clear chances, with holly Ovens shooting narrowly wide and Kirsty Macdonald going close with a header from a corner. Queens’ back four defended well to prevent Bishopton increasing their lead, with keeper Sophie Ingram dealing capably with any shots on target.
Queens came out for the second half and started strongly, working hard to close down Bishopton and competing against their physically strong opponents. After 69 minutes, Queens equalised when Lois Geddes scored following a mix-up in the Bishopton defence. Queens continued to press, growing in confidence as the game went on, but they couldn’t make the breakthrough and the game finished 1-1.
Queens defend their unbeaten league record next Sunday with a home game against Ayr United Ladies at NWCC. Please note that spectators can now attend Queens’ games at NWCC subject to current Covid rules. All spectators are required to provide track and trace information and maintain social distancing protocols.
