Dumfries is getting ready to reach for the stars with the launch/relaunch of All Stars Cricket at Dumfries Cricket Club.
From 21 May children aged 5-8 will have a great first experience of the sport via the programme delivered at Dumfries Cricket Club. Introduction to ‘All Stars Cricket sessions will run from the 9 April for children to get a taster of the programme prior to the launch in May.
All Stars Cricket is all about introducing children to the game in a fun, safe and inclusive environment and parents are encouraged to take part too.
Last year 35 children took part in All Stars at Dumfries Cricket Club. They were part of more than 37,000 children involved across the country and this will year will be even bigger and better. Parents can visit allstarscricket.co.uk to find out more information and sign their kids up.
After signing up, boys and girls get a cricket ‘back-pack’ delivered to their door with a bat, ball and everything they need to try the game for the first time.
Andrew Reed, Dumfries Cricket Club Chairman said: “We were so pleased with the programme last year, so much so that we have signed up to deliver the progamme again for 2018. The kids had so much fun, along with the coaches and parents who got involved, and we look forward to welcoming even more down to the club.”
Former England Captain and All Stars Cricket ambassador Michael Vaughan added: ““I started playing cricket at my local club and have seen first-hand how important it is to introduce kids to our sport in a fun way.
“As a parent, I’ve also seen how tough it can be to get kids interested in sport especially given the amount of activities competing for their time. Finding a way for cricket to appeal to kids and to get them active is more important than ever.
“We are bringing cricket to the front door of kids and parents across the UK. I can’t wait to see the positive impact this will have at Dumfries Cricket Club and the wider game.”
