The Scottish Schools Swimming Championships took place at Tollcross on Saturday 30 January 2016.
Qualification for this event was through the Dumfries and Galloway Council organised Dumfries and Galloway Regional School Swimming Championships which were held in November last year. A total of 48 schools and 225 individual swimmers from the two events participated and after two terrific days of racing, a large number of swimmers achieved the times required for the Scottish School Finals at Tollcross.
Around 800 swimmers gathered at Tollcross and 9 individual records and one new relay mark reflected a hugely successful day.
Twenty four (24) of the regions swimmers were accepted to represent Dumfries and Galloway and made the journey to Glasgow, with swimmers producing excellent performances on the day.
Councillor Tom McAughtrie, Chair of Community and Customer Services Committee said;
“I would like to congratulate all of the swimmers who participated in the Scottish Schools Swimming national event. It is one of Dumfries and Galloway Councils’ top priorities to provide the best start in life for our children and we are committed to giving all local children and young people an equal chance to fulfil their potential.”
