With rain affecting the Saturday Dumfries fixtures on July 9th, only the Nunholm game started and then only lasted three overs, it was a more interesting day for young Dumfries cricketer Chris McBride. He found himself playing with England International Ben Stokes who made an appearance for Durham Academy in their North-East Premier League match on Saturday.
Stokes who is recovering from injury was testing his fitness for his Durham T20 appearance the following day. The all-rounder played as a batsman and satisfied that objective by hitting a century albeit in a four run defeat. Chris said “It was an experience to play with an England international and a big encouragement since he was also a Durham Academy player before progressing to the County side. The best thing was the advice he took time to give to us after the game including how he constructed his innings.”
In a busy cricket week McBride also appeared for Durham u17s in their ECB three-day County match against Derbyshire and top scored for them in the second innings batting at three hitting twelve boundaries in his innings of 69.
