DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY COUNCIL AGREE TO 25 YEAR GROUND LEASE TO ABBEYVALE

Council agree to lease ground to Abbeyvale Amateur Football Club

The Council’s Policy and Resources Committee has agreed to lease the grounds at Maryfield Park to Abbeyvale Amateur Football Club for a further 25 years.

The lease of the land for the Club’s pavilion which commenced on 30 August 1991 has existed on tacit relocation on an annual basis for the last eight years but the lease will now be extended to include the football pitch at New Abbey Primary School and will run until 2039.

The rent to lease this council owned land will be nominal and, in return, the football club will maintain the pitch, and allow the primary school to use it as they require. Use of the pitch by the primary school will be included in the terms and conditions of the lease, as will Abbeyvale Amateurs FC’s use of hardstanding in the school grounds, outside of school hours, to enable access to the pitch.

Chair of Policy and Resources Committee, Cllr Ronnie Nicholson, said “The Council is keen to support the development of grass roots sport and the clubs that deliver this. This long term lease will enable Abbeyvale Amateur Football Club to continue to be a vital asset for its local community.”
